Janus Summer Camp is Underway...

The Summer Enrichment Program, sponsored by the Janus Center for Youth in Crisis, has begun.

A total of 10 young adults, between the ages of 10 and 14, are taking part in the 4-week program that is being sponsored in part, with a grant from the John Patrick Flanaghan Foundation.

According to Rachel Cunningham, Director of Youth Services at the CCGB, the program will include exciting workshops, CPR training (with a certification at the conclusion, weekly field trips, as well as visit to local colleges and universities.

"The Summer Enrichment Program has started and we are excited. The youth are having a great time," said Rachel. She feels that one of the best times so far was the Discovery Adventure Team Building Day.

"It rained and our participants weathered the storm, literally. This was a testament to their commitment and dedication to the activities, as well as the program," Rachel said.

The program takes place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at various sites in Bridgeport. Free lunch and transportation is provided by the Janus Center.

Visits will include: Discovery Adventures Park, Planned Parenthood, Fairfield University, Central Connecticut State University, Housatonic Community College, Stratford Police and Fire Departments, CPR Training (courtesy of the Stratford EMS), Career Resources, the State Capitol, WEBE 108, and Lake Compounce.

A special thank you is extended to We Transport for providing transportation at a reduced rate, and to all of the local agencies and organizations, and local colleges and universities for participating in the summer youth program.
